Pre College Program FAQ
Students should bring a minimum of 5-7 original artworks, made in the last year. Physical artworks are preferred, however high resolution images are acceptable. Students should choose artworks that show a range of media and subject matter.
One River School offers a limited number of scholarships each year to students who require financial assistance. To apply for financial aid please contact the school directly to review the financial aid application process.
Students do not need any formal prerequisites to be accepted to One River School’s Pre College Program. However, student’s must demonstrate dedication to to art making / design thinking through their artwork and college goals.
Students should plan to spend time outside of the classroom on assignments practicing what was learned in class, refining their skills, and completing assigned projects.
Students are encouraged to attend their weekly class consistently. Students who plan to miss a class should inform One River School staff and their instructor. They will have an opportunity to come to alternative class time or attend open studio / lab hours to complete their missed projects.
Yes, students will have an opportunity to come to open studio and digital lab time during which they can work independently to complete their projects, practice and refine their skills. Open Studio and Open Lab times will be provided at the beginning of each semester.
Classes will not be graded, however students and parents will receive regular feedback on the student's progress from instructors, guest critics and One River School staff.
One River School’s Pre College Program is taught by working artists and educators with an active practice and expansive experience helping student’s gain acceptance to fine art and design colleges.
One River School's Pre-College does not offer college credit; however, you will receive a certificate of program completion and student’s may request letters of recommendation from their instructors and One River School staff. One River instructors would be willing to offer These elements can weigh heavily in favor of college applicants at institutions worldwide.
One River School Pre College Program is ideal for students in Grades 10 and up. Students in Grades 9 may apply and will be guided by One River School staff to the right program.
Students do not need to bring any art materials or computers to class. One River School will provide all the necessary art materials and software for student’s to develop their skills and complete their portfolio requirements. Students may attend open studio and open lab time to complete their projects.
Students will work in a majority of the programs in the Adobe Creative Suite including but not limited to Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Animate.
Yes, students will have an opportunity to attend gallery / museum events, social meet-ups, skill building workshops, artist talks and critiques.
On average pre-college classes will have 10 students per co-hort.
